Talkeetna is a stop not to be missed by Alaskans and tourists alike.  About 115 miles north of Anchorage, up the Glenn, and then The Parks (do y'all see how The Parks keeps popping up?) Talkeetna is artful, folksy, and full of fun!  I picture Talkeetna as the Mat-Su Borough's Homer (there's another one)!

Talkeetna is base camp for those looking to climb Denali each year.  It's also perfectly situated to sit and stare at Denali if you're not the climbing type.  

How did Talkeetna come to be?  Gold, you guessed it!  By 1910 Talkeetna was a riverboat steamer station, with a population during WWI of 1,000.  Today, Talkeetna has a similar population count that live there year-round. Talkeetna is also famous for their honorary mayor, the cat, Stubbs.  Unfortunately, Stubbs passed away in 2017.
