Barred Owl Bracelet Inspiration: The Barred Owl is a large bird.  They range from 16 to 25 inches long, and their wingspan is 50 to 60 inches.  I’m 60” tall.  Their head is round, but they have no ear tufts like our little friend the Great Horned Owl.   Their face is off white with a darker trim around it.  If you look at a photo of a Barred Owl, you’ll notice the streaking on their face is horizontal while it’s vertical on their body.

This is your hoot owl.  We have one in the woods on our property who regularly hoots in the early morning hours.  I’ve seen him a time or two, but just about the time I get my camera focused on him he’s gone.  According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, “Barred owls were first heard in Alaska in the Juneau area in the mid-1970s and have since become established in Southeast Alaska.”

An interesting fact about the Barred Owl is that their eyes are brown, not yellow as in most other owls. A Barred Owl can live up to 10 years in the wild.

Alaskan Inspiration: I decided to just focus on the face of this beautiful owl.  So, I chose Yellow Jasper to represent the beak.   Next, you’ll see white bone button beads to represent the white feathering, two large brown waxed wooden beads for the brown eyes.  You’ll see Woodlace Stone to represent the brown feathers of the owl.  I finished it off with silver spacers to represent the round face of the owl.
