The Seward Bracelets Inspiration: We were lucky enough to live in Seward for about 4 years, and for a while we owned a B&B in Seward that looked straight at Mt. Marathon.  

Why would they call a mountain Marathon?  Because it’s a literal race course!

The Mt. Marathon Race is believed to be one of the oldest foot races in America.  There’s been a few years thrown around as to when it began, but it was officially organized in 1915.

According to Wikipedia, "Legend says that it all started out as a bar bet between two "sourdoughs" (slang for people who have stayed in the North for many winters), with one betting a man could race to the top of the mountain and back in less than an hour, and the other saying that wasn't possible. The winning racer finished in one hour and twenty minutes."

If you look at the inspiration photo, you'll see the trail up and back down the mountain.  

For the bracelet without a tassel, I chose green French Cross beads because it represents two things. The color green represents the trees and brush of Mt. Marathon, while the actual cross reminds me of the trail on the mountain, the square Map Jasper Cubes represent the shale at the top of the mountain. There are scree fields up there that people will slide down resulting in all kinds of cuts and scrapes.  

I next chose the Grey Saucer Natural Wood Beads to represent the larger rocks and shale on the mountain. I used gray waxed wooden beads to represent the snow fields that are dotting the mountain.  I loved the extra shine they give.

You'll notice the beads are all paired in threes. That represents the first, second, and third place of the annual Mt. Marathon runners.

For the bracelet with the tassel, I switched it up a bit. The green French Cross beads are the same, and the large gray druzy represent the shale at the top of the mountain. The Grey Saucer Natural Wood Beads are also the same.

I added a tassel to give this bracelet a little something extra for those who love tassels.
